Resumen

MULLER, Ana Cláudia  y  DIAS, Ana Cristina Garcia. The psychologist in the public healthcare network: professional education and practice. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.1, n.1, pp. 54-66. ISSN 1983-8220.

The aim of this study was to investigate psychologists' training and professional practice at the public health network in the country side of RS. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five professionals and content analyzed. Results showed that the professional training did not properly prepare the psychologists interviewed to the work at the public health network, since the main focus of training was the clinical model centered at the individual level. Although participants were critical about the traditional psychological practices model, they did not look for additional training with a different approach to mental health care. Based on this results, the authors claim for an urgent and critical evaluation of psychological education, arguing in favor of a better integration of academy, health services and the population. On academic grounds, it is necessary to create learning methodologies that promote students' participation as well the development of critical and reflexive skills that allows a revision of health care models historically employed in psychological interventions. On the other hand, it is important that the professionals think of themselves not just as practitioners, but as reflexive agents that produce new knowledge that can be used in academy.
