Abstract

DELFINI, Ana Beatriz Lima; ROQUE, Ana Paula  and  PERES, Rodrigo Sanches. Anxious and depressive symptomatology among adults in-patients: screening in clinical ward. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.2, n.1, pp. 12-22. ISSN 1983-8220.

The present study aims to evaluate the anxious and depressive symptomatology among adults in-patients and identify possible associated socio-demographical and clinical factors. It is a documental, descriptive, retrospective and quanti-qualitative study. The sample involved 100 in-patients submitted to the screening evaluation executed as a routine by the Psychology Service from a philanthropic hospital, which involves the application of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Of the patients under study, was verified that 46% presented relevant clinical symptoms of anxiety and 37% presented relevant clinical symptoms of depression. Higher levels of anxiety and depression occurred on female patients, aged between 71 and 80 years old, divorced, assisted by gynaecologists and obstetricians, and under hospital internment during a period of 8 to 21 days. Those results supply elements for the improvement of the individual psychological consultation offered as routine in the hospital. In that sense, group interventions were proposed, standing out the homogeneous supportive groups.
