Abstract

This study evaluated symptoms of anxiety and depression in 200 freshmen and senior university students from a private University of Rio Grande do Sul. The participants had answered to BAI (Beck Anxiety Inventory) and to BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) in collective applications in classrooms. Main results showed high comorbidity between depression and anxiety, higher levels of anxiety and depression among women than men and significantly higher rates of depression among freshmen students than among senior students. These results point the importance of the evaluation of aspects related to emotional well-being during the graduation period and of the creation of student support services.
