Abstract

SAVIETTO, Bianca Bergamo. Youth and family in the contemporary world: an endless helplessness?. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.5, n.1, pp. 23-35. ISSN 1983-8220.

This article, based on Psychoanalysis, intends to explore the issue of adolescence/youth inserted in the contemporary context of culture and family. We analyzed, therefore, aspects related to such issue which are pertinent to the broader level of culture, but we highlighted those which regard the contemporary family. We approached the issue of the progressive weakening of the symbolic authority in this environment, suggesting consequences of the process which culminated in this weakening both for the contemporary youth and for their parents - and, moreover, for the relations between them. We aimed, essentially, at highlighting possible obstacles to the processes of subjectivation of these young people and to their entrance in adult life. We will also demonstrate that such obstacles participate in the establishment of addiction to drugs.

Keywords : Youth; Family; Helplessness; Drug Addiction.
