Resilience studies are somewhat new in human and health sciences. In these areas, the phenomenon is understood by the ability to positively recover from adverse situations. This paper characterizes the resilience among adolescents living in socially vulnerable situations in the Paranhana Valley, RS. For such, a Resilience Scale was used in a sample of 35 adolescents between the ages of 12 to 15. Further the general scale analysis, differences between 15 adolescents who participated voluntarily in a social-communitarian intervention activity (Identity Program) were verified with those who could not participate. Data analyze showed adolescents with a good Resilience score in both groups. Characteristics of self-confidance and independence, as well schedule impediments, indicated a tendency of not getting involved in the Social Program offered. Besides, characteristics such as perseverance and determination facilitated the permanence of the students in programs offered to them.
