Abstract

FINKLER, Lirene  and  DELL'AGLIO, Débora Dalbosco. Street children families: perceptions about a social program intervention. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.1, pp. 53-66. ISSN 1983-8220.

This study evaluated the perception of families assisted by Ação Rua, a service responsible for monitoring and approaching street children and adolescents in the city of Porto Alegre, from 2007 to 2009. Focus groups were conducted with 11 mothers and grandmothers of families with street children. The discussions were transcribed and analyzed qualitatively. The results and discussions focused on the following themes: expectations regarding the service, perceptions on the intervention and difficulties encountered in the services. The bioecological theory of human development and the theoretical perspective of social support sustain the analysis, which highlighted proximal processes between social workers and families, as well as the informality in social support perceived. The study contributes to the evaluation of strategies used in socio assistance services to cope with street situations
