Studies about the meaning of work have become quite widespread in the Brazilian academy. In this sense, the authors aimed to contribute to the field by understanding the meanings of work for young people with different working organizations: trainees and workers of a supportive enterprise. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed by content analysis. The results suggest that the meaning of work may be linked to issues such as social class and educational level. The employment contract can also be a variable in the attribution of meaning. It is suggested that new studies seek not only to pay attention to the factors mentioned, but also to the labor relationship that is established.
