Abstract

CATTANI, Beatriz Cancela; TEIXEIRA, Marco Antonio Pereira  and  OURIQUE, Luciana Rubensan. Career maturity and socioeconomic status of high school students. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.9, n.1, pp. 67-77. ISSN 1983-8220.

This study aimed at identifying the relationship between career maturity and socioeconomic status of high school students. The study included 265 students, aged between 14 and 20 years old, from two schools (one public and one private). Two instruments were applied: the adapted version of the Career Maturity Inventory - Form C (Adaptability Form) and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Socioeconomic level was assessed considering the family income and the parents' education. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlations, t-tests and analysis of variance. Results indicated no significant correlation between career maturity and socioeconomic status. It was concluded that career maturity of adolescents facing a career choice is possibly associated with other factors, and not only the socioeconomic situation of the family.

Keywords : career maturity; socioeconomic level; vocational guidance; adolescents; Career Maturity Inventory.
