Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the place of drug use and abuse in a person's identity, which are in a street life situation. A qualitative research, starting from the case study of an individual in street life and substance abuse situation, is performed. It analyzes that the beginning of drug use may be related to the poverty reality and family disintegration, as well as it may be one of the causes of the street life situation. However, the use of psychoactive substances is also maintained by discrimination and perverse recognition, developing fetishized identity characters. Alternatives to decrease the abuse and discrimination are also examined. This study highlights the possibility of constructing a metamorphosis identity with the support of families and public policies.
