LAGES, Sônia Regina Corrêa et al. Racial prejudice as determining social health - the invisibility of sickle cell anemia. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2017, vol.10, n.1, pp. 109-122. ISSN 1983-8220.

The work refers to a research report in the field of Health of Black Population which considers that the morbidity and mortality in Brazil has color, that the illness and death kinds of those groups are related to their material and social conditions. On this base, a study, whose objective was to investigate the perception of health staff employees and of the users of the center about prejudice as a determinant of health and about the knowledge of sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease that affects more specifically those groups, was carried out in a public health center in the city of Belo Horizonte. The research results evidence the existence of institutional racism in public health, of prejudice as depression generator, and show lack of knowledge about sickle cell anemia among health teams and users of health care.
