MAHENDRA, Fénita Manuel; DONELLI, Tagma Marina Schneider  y  MARIN, Angela Helena. Understanding family environments in the context of teenagers' school failure. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.1, pp. 45-60. ISSN 1983-8220.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36298/gerais2019110105.

The present study aimed to understand how parents perceive the family environment of adolescents with and without history of school failure, considering the dimensions of the family environment. This is a descriptive and qualitative study involving four families with profiles that were considered functional and dysfunctional. Two families had teenage children with history of school failure. Parents answered a semi-structured interview and the thematic analysis revealed that there was less control and stimulation for religiosity in families of adolescents with failure history. The parents in these families also had lower levels of education. In the families with adolescents without failure, we noticed a better balance between independence and control and stimulation of religiosity. Cohesion and union were also present in these families. Understanding the relationship between family environment and school performance can contribute to the promotion of more resourceful environments for a successful development of the academic path of teenage students.
