The work of nursing teams in Newborn Intensive Care Units (NICU) may be considered stressful according to the literature since these professionals deal with highly complex situations. The aim of the present paper is to identify the vulnerability to stress and the presence of stress symptoms in a non-probabilistic sample for accessibility composed of 30 professionals: nurses, technicians and nursing auxiliaries of a NICU from a public hospital. The participants answered in a single application session: a) Sociodemographic Questionnaire; b) the Inventory of Stress Symptoms for Adults, and c) Work Stress Vulnerability Scale. The results revealed that 56.7% of the sample presented signs of stress, in major in the "resistance" phase (50%). There was positive correlation between the presence of stress and the variable "climate and organizational functioning", thus suggesting the need of changes in the work environment to settle the stressors in the NICU context.
