MACEDO, João Paulo et al. Brazilian scientific production about social support: trends and invisibilities. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.2, pp. 258-278. ISSN 1983-8220.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36298/gerais2019110206.

This was a literature review in Brazilian journals about social support. We surveyed the data base of the Virtual Library in Health - Psychology (BVS-PSI). From 204 papers found, only 159 were selected for the research. The selected material was read in full aiming to identify definitions, history, problematization, study design, participants, associated health problems/problematics, relation with the conditioners of the health-disease process and care practices offered. It was observed an increase in studies about the theme in the last few years in the area of health and psychology. As a result, we present a general characterization of the researches, a conceptual synthesis of the theme, the most frequent health problems (physical and mental) related to the studies on social support, the articulation with the perspective of social determination of health and services supply.
