Abstract

VASCONCELOS, Maria Paula Naves; PAIVA, Fernando Santana de  and  VECCHIA, Marcelo Dalla. Drug users' health care: between normalization and denial of autonomy. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.2, pp. 363-381. ISSN 1983-8220.  http://dx.doi.org/10.36298/gerais2019110212.

The conceptions that define the use of drugs and their users, elaborated among health workers of the Brazilian Psychosocial Care Network (Raps), can have an impact on the delivery of health care to people with problems with drugs. We sought to understand the conceptions about care of professionals who work in Raps. Two group interviews were conducted: (i) with health workers from a Psychosocial Care Center - Drugs (Caps Ad) and (ii) with workers and volunteers from a therapeutic community, both located in a small municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The results pointed two central categories of analysis: (i) Institution as a space for standardization of care; and (ii) Individualization of care as a denial of the autonomy of the subject. A prioritization of therapeutic strategies based on hospitalization and abstinence is observed, and it is necessary to deepen studies on the meanings of care and work process.
