SILVA, Carla Regina et al. Art and culture for the promotion of human rights at the mental health users. Cad. Bras. Saúde Ment. [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.20, pp. 204-218. ISSN 1984-2147.

The object of this paper is the interface between culture, human rights and mental health. To exploit this interface, we will present the description of an experience carried out in a project of university extension that previously includes the contextualization of the topic, the narrative of an intervention and its subsequent critical analysis. Art and culture were used as sensitive strategies in order to promote formation spaces, creation and emancipation together with users of mental health services of a city in the state of São Paulo. Guided by intersectoriality and transdisciplinary, artistic and cultural interventions were performed to promote the discussion and reflection about human rights with people who have their rights often violated. The critical analysis of the proposal was obtained by the use of the technique of construction of field diaries, which were employed to the extraction of clippings for the construction of this text. This experience showed: i) the importance of using artistic and cultural activities to the users of services of mental health, as altenatives of awareness, expression and appropriation of their fundamental human rights. ii) the spaces of artistic and cultural creation provided experiences, discussions and reflections that produce in the act the experimentation of violated or suppressed rights. iii) artistic creations generated important sensitive and aesthetic movements for people with mental disorders that promote important individual and collective transformations in the context of mental health. In the sense of qualifying professional formation, actions and relationships for the emancipation of individuals and strengthening of spaces for co-creation of overcoming strategies.
