The purpose ofthis study is to present and discuss a trainnee program in work psychology developed from July 1999 to December 2000. Eighteen students from the psychology course of the Federal Universities of Brazil participated in this study. The students trainning consisted on offering professional counselling to the unemployed. The objective of the program was to offer psychological support to the unemployed, information that allowed the unemployed to evaluate new job opportunities and that allowed them to develop job skills that are required by the job market today, finally it was intended to help the unemployed himself to orient his carrier to attend the job market demands. The work was done in four sections, each section consisted in 4 to 6 participants, the duration of the counselling was 2 months. This counselling experience was evaluated by 3 psychologists (that were students at the time the project). During the follow up of some of the unemployed show some improvment on their conditions
