PORTO, Juliana Barreiros  e  TAMAYO, Alvaro. Value priorities and brazilian regions: predictors of organizational civism. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2002, vol.2, n.1, pp. 31-61. ISSN 1984-6657.

Organizational Civism is an organizational behavior that enables organizational effectiveness. This behavior includes five factors: creative suggestions for organization improvement, self-training, cooperative activities with fellow members, protective actions of system and creation of favorable climate for organization in the external environment. Its major antecedents pointed by previous studies are job satisfaction and organizational justice. New works also have demonstrated the importance of values and culture. The objective of this research was to investigate the predictive power of values and also of Brazilian regions on the organizational civism behavior. For this purpose the research made use of the instrument of Organizational Civism with the Schwartz Value Survey and personal questions were answered by 867 employees of a Brazilian public organization. The results indicated that individual values influence civism behaviors and the motivation behind these behaviors can be either collectivist or individualistic. The Brazilian regions significantly predicted only two factors of civism. They are: self-training and creation of favorable climate for organization in the external environment.
