Abstract

REGO, Arménio. Citizenship behaviors of university teachers: the promising childhood of the construct. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2002, vol.2, n.1, pp. 63-91. ISSN 1984-6657.

This article focus on the construct of citizenship behaviours of university teachers (CBUT) proposed by Rego (Rego, 2000a, 2000b, Rego & Sousa, 2000a, 2000b; Rego, 2001; Rego & Reis, in press). CBUT construct has shown good psychometric properties and its relevance is twofold. On the one hand, CBUT explain professional motivation, self-confidence and academic achievement of students. On the other hand, students, teachers and graduates (Portuguese and Brazilian) have similar points of view about the importance of the CBUT for the teacher performance. The empirical work already produced suggests the need to move on to a global analysis that allows a) to discuss the weaknesses and strengths of the construct and of the respective measurement instrument; b) to highlight some directions for future research.
