Abstract

LIMA, Suzana Maria Valle; MACHADO, Magali dos Santos  and  CASTRO, Antônio Maria Gomes de. Trust: production modes and main predictors in research teams' partnerships. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2002, vol.2, n.1, pp. 93-115. ISSN 1984-6657.

This paper aims to identify the main trust production modes in cooperative research teams (interorganizational teams), the variables which determine initial trust, in these teams, the changes in trust after a period of time, and the main influences over these changes. The relationship among these research teams was chosen as a form of social interaction characterized by cooperation and uncertainty, essential conditions to the study of trust. These kind of relationships were investigated in a large public agricultural research organization, through the application of an instrument addressed to leaders (of research teams) and research teams themselves, and analyzed through linear regression models. The results show that: the main mode of trust production, for these teams, is the so-called "institutional based mode" ; inítial trust is influenced both by the importance of teams technical capacity and by the leader role in the structuring of the partnership; technical relationship between leaders and teams is crucial to present trust. The main results are discussed and their theoretical and practical implícations are indicated.

Keywords : trust; trust production modes; cooperative research teams.
