Abstract

ASSIS, Daniela Tavares Ferreira de  and  MACEDO, Kátia Barbosa. The work of musicians of a blues band from a psychodinamics of work viewpoint. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.1, pp. 52-64. ISSN 1984-6657.

This article presents data from research that seeks to investigate the organization and conditions of work, the experiences of pleasure and suffering, coping strategies, professional identity, and the meaning of work for members of a blues band. The descriptive, exploratory case study used the semi-structured interview with the five band members, and observation of the band's rehearsals and shows. The delineation of this study favored "Dejourian" concepts as the guideline perspective of pleasure and suffering. The collected data were submitted to discourse analysis. The results show that creative artistic work is a factor for building the musician's identity. In the organization and conditions of work, the division of labor occurs in an informal way, and in conditions that can affect the musician's health. Work relations within the band are seen as harmonious, and the strategies for coping with suffering at work are denial and rationalization.

Keywords : psychodynamics of work; music; band and organization.
