FERREIRA, Mário César. Activity-centered ergonomics promote quality of working life?: Reflections of a methodological nature. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.1, pp. 8-20. ISSN 1984-6657.

The negative consequences of the accelerated changes that mark the world of goods and services production have been contributing decisively to investment in Quality of Working Life (QWL) in organizations. A global characterization of the limits of assistance-based approaches to QWL - of an individual, assistive, and hegemonic nature - provides the basis of reflection for thematic study in the field of Activity-centered Ergonomics Applied to Quality of Working Life. This theoretical article discusses the methodological contributions of Activity-centered Ergonomics, based on a QWL approach that is preventive and counter-hegemonic in its orientation. Effective and sustainable intervention in the field of QWL involves removing and / or mitigating the root causes of disaffection among workers toward conditions, the organization, and socio-professional workplace relations, and in particular, reversing the dominant paradigm of the "individual as an adjustment variable" in favor of the criteria of Ergonomics to "adapt the work to the human being." Limits and challenges are also presented for the consolidation of a theoretical-methodological approach of Activity-centered Ergonomics aimed at the Quality of Working Life.
