Abstract

MARTINS, Lara Barros  and  ZERBINI, Thaís. Distance learning in higher education institutions: a review of the research. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.3, pp. 271-282. ISSN 1984-6657.

A growing number of distance learning courses offered via the Internet in higher education institutions indicate a timely opportunity to check the production of knowledge on the subject. This literature review aimed to give an overview of the studies that were conducted between 2000 and 2012, through literature review in electronic databases. Despite the presence of various e-learning programs around the world, there is a large gap between the number of publications on learning and assessment of the effectiveness of those courses, requiring more systematic research to demonstrate their applicability. Regarding the results achieved by such actions, the recurrent access to virtual learning environments, the use of web resources and self-regulatory learning strategies have demonstrated how learning is occurring; and there is a predominantly high level of student satisfaction with online and hybrid courses.
