Abstract

LIPP, Marilda E. Novaes; COSTA, Keila Regina da Silva Nunes  and  NUNES, Vaneska de Oliveira. Stress, quality of life, and occupational stressors among police officers: frequent symptoms. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.1, pp. 46-53. ISSN 1984-6657.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17652/rpot/2017.1.12490.

Quality of life, occupational stress, and its causes were evaluated in 1,837 members of the police force in the State of Mato Grosso. The sample ranged from 19 to 65 years of age, with 77% of participants male and 23% female. It was comprised of military police (n=1,017), military fire brigade (n=108), civil police (n=454), forensic specialists (n=68), and administrative staff (n=190). It was found that 52% exhibited symptoms of stress. Quality of life was found to be lacking, primarily regarding health. The data show a significant association between high stress levels and poor quality of life. The study reveals that there is a need for institutional actions to stimulate the acquisition of stress coping strategies that can promote a better quality of life among public security servants in the state.
