Abstract

ANDRADE, Ana; SILVA, Isabel Soares  and  VELOSO, Ana. Professional integration of visually impaired people: from organizational practices to individual attitudes. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.2, pp. 80-88. ISSN 1984-6657.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17652/rpot/2017.2.12687.

This work discusses the integration of blind people in the labor market and it aims to contribute to the knowledge of the integration process and to dwell on the organizational policies and practices capable of promoting it. This work includes both the blind people's and the employers' perspectives. Semi-structured interviews were conducted: eight with blind people integrated in the labor market and five with their supervisors. The interviewees consider that the integration of blind people in the labor market is positive. In spite of such perception, they consider that there is still much work to be done, mainly regarding the information employers have, to overcome the prejudice associated to this disability. Results also suggest that both employers and blind workers should assume an active attitude in the integration process, in order to develop a scenario of mutual adaptation that promotes the well-being of blind workers in their work environment.
