Abstract

SILVA JUNIOR, Domingos Isidório; FERREIRA, Maria Cristina; VALENTINI, Felipe  and  PEREIRA, Michelle Morelo. Validity evidence for the teacher self-efficacy scale in brazilian samples. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.3, pp. 405-411. ISSN 1984-6657.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17652/rpot/2018.3.13925.

Self-efficacy pertains to beliefs about one's own capacities and skills. The study collected validity evidence for the Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES) in the Brazilian context. The sample consisted of 395 teachers, male and female (61.5% female), with ages ranging between 20 and 69 years (M = 40.83; SD = 10.84), who answered the Brazilian version of the scale and other correlated instruments. Confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the original model of the instrument, consisting of 24 items, distributed into six factors, with good internal consistency coefficients. The scale also presented a high positive correlation with general self-efficacy, moderate positive correlations with engagement at work and satisfaction at work, and a low negative correlation with emotional exhaustion. The good psychometric qualities of the scale suggest its future use in research and diagnosis.

Keywords : self-efficacy; teacher; psychometrics.
