BRITO, Fernanda de Souza  e  MAGALHAES, Mauro de Oliveira. Workers' preferred leadership styles in different occupational environments. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.3, pp. 441-448. ISSN 1984-6657.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17652/rpot/2018.3.13731.

This study investigated differences in preferred leadership styles among workers congruently located in occupations, classified using Holland's model of interests and occupational environments (1997). Congruence refers to the similarity between a worker's interests and work characteristics (Holland, 1997). The study supposes that the selection of congruent workers qualifies the identified preferences as relevant to specific categories of people and work environments. A sample of 842 workers responded to measures of interests, occupational environments, and preferred leadership styles. From this sample, the 543 workers who revealed congruence between their interests and work characteristics were selected. The results showed a greater preference for task-oriented leadership in workers with entrepreneurial interests, compared to artistic ones, and a greater preference for people-oriented leadership in social types of workers compared to realists, corroborating theoretical expectations. There were no differences between groups with respect to charismatic leadership. Theoretical and practical implications for people management are discussed.
