Abstract

STEIL, Andrea Valéria; FLORIANI, Eduarda Vieira; ZILLI, Marcos Benedet  and  RUBIO, Marcela Albuquerque. Intention to leave the organization: definitions, methods, and citations in national publications. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.2, pp. 515-522. ISSN 1984-6657.  http://dx.doi.org/10.17652/rpot/2019.2.14080.

This article describes the Brazilian scientific production on intention to leave the organization from 2000 to 2015. Using systematic and bibliometric procedures we collected and analyzed 44 publications. Less than half of the publications define the construct, and those that define it do not rely on the theory of planned behavior. The majority of publications were empirical and quantitative. The citations analysis indicated the most-cited themes in the publications: turnover intention, organizational ties, quality of working life, organizational behavior, and statistics. The article proposes the use of the term "intention to leave" to ensure correspondence at the individual analysis level between the intention and the subsequent behavior. Furthermore, the article explains behavioral intentions within the scope of the theory of planned behavior and proposes an agenda for cumulative research development in this area.

Keywords : Intention; employee turnover; retention.
