MOTA, Cynthia Araújo; SILVA, Alda Karoline Lima Da e AMORIM, Keyla. Prevalence of common mental disorders in technical-administrative staff in education. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.1, pp. 891-898. ISSN 1984-6657. http://dx.doi.org/10.17652/rpot/2020.1.17691.
Facing the increasing number of sickness absences caused by mental health issues, this study analyzed the relation between mental illness and work activity, identified the socio-professional profile of workers, checked the prevalence of common mental disorders (CMD) among them, and characterized their absenteeism from work. This descriptive, quantitative, and cross-sectional study used a socio-professional questionnaire and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). Its descriptive statistical analysis identified CMD prevalence of 37% among the 434 respondents (95% confidence interval), as well as the association between the dependent variable and some contextual variables (p < 0.05): the expectation fulfillment of the workers in relation to the work; the work organization, conditions, and relations; and the assessment that the work produces suffering. It was concluded that there is a high prevalence of CMD among the workers, and the work causes psychological suffering, imposing the need to take care of the workers as well as the work.
