Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Karine Trarbach de  and  MORAES, Thiago Drumond. Mental health and work among military fire brigade professionals. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.1, pp. 1388-1397. ISSN 1984-6657.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/rpot/2021.1.21135.

Military firefighters is a professional category that deals with activities of varying degrees of complexity, often act on an emergency basis and are in a military work organization. Such contexts can interfere in the professional's mental health. This research aimed to investigate evidence of the occurrence of depression, anxiety and stress among military firefighters in Espirito Santo and their relationship with work organization. A survey was conducted using DASS-21 and ITRA scales and a sociodemographic questionnaire in a sample of 297 firefighters, 83.8% men, mean age 35.84 years (SD = 5.92). 65% of respondents showed signs of depression, anxiety or stress. Factors related to work were more important than sociodemographic factors in the characterization of the health aspects of military firefighters and with a greater potential to be associated with the professional's mental health, in relation to the researched outcomes. Such results can contribute to measures to resolve such damages among workers.
