Workers who occupy military positions are required to give more than in other professions, requiring greater emotional control. Thus, emotional intelligence and self-efficacy can be essential resources to assist in tasks performed in these positions. In order to understand the relationship between these variables, we analyzed the relationship between the explanatory power of emotional intelligence and work self-efficacy in 395 military staff of the Brazilian Air Force, aged 18 to 30 (M = 21.19; SD = 1.75). They responded to the Work Self-Efficacy Scale and the Emotional Skills Inventory, and the data were analyzed using a structural model. The results indicated positive correlations between both constructs, and emotional intelligence was able to positively explain the dimensions of self-efficacy for work, indicating that emotional factors may be important predictors of key cognitive indicators in high-performing professions.
