Abstract

LEMOS, Milena Fiorim de Lima  and  SALLES, Andréia Mansk Boone. Some reflections about children suicide. Rev. Psicol. UNESP [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.1, pp. 38-42. ISSN 1984-9044.

This text is an essay about children suicide in Brazil, the health services available to provide care to this population and the researchers conducted into this subject. Suicide is the act of intentionally ending one’s own life. It is related to biological, social, environmental factors and to the personal history, so, is a complex and multifactor phenomenon. Considering this, what kind of questions can be raised concerning children’s suicide attempts? Considering children suicide in Brazil is quite complicated to answer this question since it is difficult to find data among the numerous studies that focus on this issue, even among the epidemiological studies. The lack of research and literature with this population hinders the comprehension of the phenomenon and so the improvement of interventions in the field of prevention and care for survivors. The authors’ purpose is to expand the discussion into children suicide, encouraging further debate and research in this area.

Keywords : suicide; childhood; psychology.
