HIDALGO, Matheus. Phenomenology and psychoanalysis: the unconscious as structure of behavior. Rev. Psicol. UNESP [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp. 10-20. ISSN 1984-9044.

In this article we explore some of the central aspects of the initial position of Merleau-Ponty about the theme of the unconscious, as it appears in the first two works of the French philosopher. Thus, at first we tried to characterize the main aspects of Merleau-Ponty’s criticism of Freudianism; then, we present his phenomenological proposal for dissolution of the Freudian notion of the unconscious to the ambivalence of immediate awareness, since the life of consciousness is often fragmented and rarely integrated into a single mode meaning; finally, we try to nuance the initial positions of Sartre and Merleau-Ponty on this subject. To conclude, we indicate some implications of this discussion regarding the continuity of the philosopher’s work.
