BENELLI, Silvio José; FERRI, Gustavo Guimarães  and  FERREIRA JUNIOR, Nivaldo. Inquiring the concept of network, its origins and some of its current uses. Rev. Psicol. UNESP [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp. 54-73. ISSN 1984-9044.

Ideas such social networking, networking, social assistance network model, are extremely used in official speeches of public policies for children and adolescents and also in Social Work. Where does the term “network come from”? What is his story? How the word and concept of the network are being used and permeating several issues as politic, economics cultural and psychological, especially in the field of social policies? It would be possible to define a concept of “network”, beyond mere general term or concept? The intention of this paper is to discuss some philosophical assumptions of the network idea and also critically discuss his function as a term and concept, taking it as a discursive practice capable of creating new social realities. In order to do it, we conducted a small incursion into the area of philosophy exploring the assumptions that could explain the notion and concept of network.

Keywords : social psychology; social network; social assistance network; rhizome; public policies.
