Abstract

SANTOS, Marcos Silva  and  SANTOS, Romário da Silva. Man's submission to the commodification of time. Rev. Psicol. UNESP [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.2, pp. 65-91. ISSN 1984-9044.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/1984-9044.20200026.

The time category will be developed from an analytical perspective of its function in the contemporaneity, aiming to capture how such a concept was transmuted into its current meaning to meet certain demands, mainly economic ones. Due to the obscurity, transversality and multiplicity of meaning assigned to time, which has been seeing as concept, it is going to be seeing as category. It aims to, additionally to lecturing on this category, comprehend the ways that people invest and trade theirs time for financial resources, social and personal acknowledgement, using their workforce to make it possible. It is understood that this relation is inflexible and crucial to the social metabolism, although the sacrifices in the individual and collective aspects are tangible. This academic research intends to formulate a critic to the excess of time devoted to work, evaluating and acknowledging how it was socially created, specially its losses for both individual and collective life.
