Resumen

BIER, Bianca  y  BELLEVILLE, Sylvie. Optimizing cognition in aging: brain reserve, cognitive stimulation and cerebral plasticity. Neuropsicologia Latinoamericana [online]. 2010, vol.2, n.3, pp. 37-47. ISSN 2075-9479.

In the elderly, the concerns relative to the intellectual and cognitive integrity are important and often related with the eventuality of suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Aging characterized by progressive loss and decline of memory and cognitive capacities leads to a negative vision of cognitive aging. The goal of this article is to question this negative vision by presenting empirical arguments to establish that cognitive aging is extremely variable among individuals, that it can be adapted and also highly plastic. This article concerns the notion of cognitive reserve, various modes of optimization of cognitive aging and models of plasticity.

Palabras clave : Aging; Cognitive reserve; Plasticity; Cognitive training; Cognitive intervention.
