MALFAIT, Domitille  e  LIPPE, Sarah. Cognitive and behavioral deficits in children with benign epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes. Neuropsicologia Latinoamericana [online]. 2011, vol.3, n.1, pp. 47-57. ISSN 2075-9479.

Benign Rolandic epilepsy is the most common form of idiopathic epilepsy in childhood. The onset is between 3 and 13 years old. These patients have a good prognosis, mainly because of a spontaneous remission in adolescence. However, recent studies indicate the presence of specific disabilities during the active phase of the syndrome on cognition, behavior and emotional control. Neuropsychological impairments affect language, perception, attention and memory. Moreover, a few studies show that some peculiarities in information processing persist in these patients after complete remission of the epilepsy. The aim of this literature review is to identify and classify the various cognitive and affective difficulties, which are associated with this epilepsy. Research investigating quality of life are also reported in order to complete this review.
