INJOQUE-RICLE, Irene  e  BURIN, Débora I.. Working Memory and Planning in children: validation of the Tower of London Task. Neuropsicologia Latinoamericana [online]. 2011, vol.3, n.2, pp. 31-38. ISSN 2075-9479.

Working memory (WM) and planning are two aspects of executive functions and are closely related. The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between different components of the MT model of Baddeley and Hitch and planning in children, and to investigate whether this association varies between different age groups in childhood. Two studies were conducted. Study 1 aimed to validate a local version of the Tower of London task (TL). TL and different external tasks were administered in 210 children aged 6, 8 and 11 years old from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Good coefficients of validity and reliability of this local version of the TL were obtained, showing that this task is valid for evaluation of children aged 6, 8 and 11 years old, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. In Study 2, the main purpose of this article was explored. TL and Automated Working Memory Assessment Battery (AWMA) were used to examine 180 children aged 6, 8 and 11 years old. Significant associations between the scores of TL and AWMA representing the central executive of MT were found in the subgroup of 8 years old, and between the scores of TL and AWMA scores that represent the central executive and visuospatial handle the MT were observed in the 11-year-old group. These findings suggest that the verbal component of TM would not be involved in resolving the TL task, and even if the visuospatial handle is wrapped in older children, the central executive is the component most notably in the resolution of this planning task.
