The purpose of this critical review is to analyze the thin-ideal internalization and its effects on individuals. This analysis allows the identification of the predictive and mediator role that it plays in theinteraction between peer relationships and the development of body image and eating disturbances. It examines differences in gender and developmental stages, and offers a review of measuring instruments. The findings show that it is necessary to continue studying the mechanisms of internalization and its consequences, as well as how to prevent and treat the effects. It emphasizes the need to understand the importance of internalization in the mental and physical health of individuals.
