Abstract

REIS, Ramon Pereira dos. I'm afraid of being effeminate: performances and bodily gender conventions in homossexual sociability spaces. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2012, vol.4, n.1, pp. 73-87. ISSN 2175-2591.

This is an investment analytical on performances and bodily gender conventions of male homosexuals frequenting of two homosexual sociability spaces - Lux and Malícia - in Belém, Pará. Extending the analysis beyond those spaces, I am interested in peer situations where respondents exposed lines of embarrassment or fear of effeminate and that the presence at some places above could bring feminization of the constitution itself. Therefore, I direct observations in the spaces and interviewed nine male homosexuals, applying semi-structured questionnaire, from August 2010 to August 2011. I could see that Lux and Malícia portray, through their regulars and equipment available, the "production" of body performances and gender distinct: represented by revulsion and rejection of femininity blatant that is "produced" by Lux, as opposed to a respectable masculinity "produced" by Malícia.

Keywords : bodily gender convention; homosexual sociability spaces; male homosexuals; performances.
