The aim of this paper is to reflect on fatherhood in the public domain document, entitled "Situation of Brazilian Children. Child Development. The first six years of life. Initially, analysis will proceed from Michel Foucault's conception of governmentality, and the use of linguistic repertoires based on Mary Jane Spink, taking into account subjectivity and language as bias for understanding this paternal identity once the document sets out requirements under the care and participation of the father in child development and family, besides contributing to the debate on the breaks, changes, questions regarding paternity nowadays.
