BRANCO, Paulo Coelho Castelo. Review the monadology aspects in Carl Rogers' theory in the light of a social phenomenology. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2012, vol.4, n.2, pp. 83-98. ISSN 2175-2591.

This article reviews monadology aspects in Carl Rogers's theory, based on a critical reading about phenomenological sociology by Alfred Schutz. The term monad alludes to the existence of a closed subjectivity itself, distinct from world and able to represent reality in their own convictions. The dialogue between Rogers and Schutz is because both address the issues of consciousness, reality and access them via empathic understanding, with developments from the pragmatism. This study evidences: (1) different conceptions of consciousness, functional in Rogers and intentional in Schutz, (2) different understandings of reality, intra-subjective in Rogers and inter-subjective in Schutz, (3) dissimilar models of empathy, in Rogers focused on understanding the contents of personality, in Schutz directed to the structures of the consciousness in interaction with the lifeworld. The study finally points to develop a post-rogerian perspective of person decentered approach.

Palabras clave : phenomenology; Rogers; Schutz; client-centered-therapy.
