Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the meaning that new information and communication technologies, particularly internet and mobile, occupy young people's lives. The research was held in Petrola Paul's Technical School, located in the urban periphery of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Individuals were students of second year high school computer and tourism classes. Therefore, a qualitative and quantitative research was carried out, using observations, surveys, field notes, focus groups and interviews through Facebook. The research indicates that digital technologies have a great importance in young people's lives, reaching areas such as: leisure, relationships, social life and the way of understanding information and knowledge. It announces yet the importance that social networks, particularly Facebook, are taking in their daily practices, configuring as a space of claims, confidences, information, autonomy and affirmation of youth.
