Resumen

This article is about a research aimed at to understand the experience of children across the corrective heart surgery, revealing the meanings attributed to death. The method is based on the qualitative approach of a case study, so it is an exploratory, descriptive and interpretative multiple cases in which one understands the need to study the deepening in order to grasp the peculiarities of the case. Participated in five children with congenital heart disease to be submitted to partial corrective surgical treatment or functional, one male and four females, aged between five and twelve years of age who were admitted to the Public Foundation Hospital de Clínicas Gaspar Vianna (FPHCGV). The interdiction of the theme of death linked to the suffering of their families and health professionals were perceived by the children, which revealed the need to talk about the threat of personal death and raised fears in the pre-surgical cardiological.
