Abstract

ARAUJO, Thauana Santos de  and  HOLANDA, Adriano Furtado. A reading of the aggression in the works of Fritz Perls. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.3, pp. 16-37. ISSN 2175-2591.  http://dx.doi.org/10.26823/RevistadoNUFEN.vol09.n03artigo12.

This article aimed to analyze the meaning of the notion of "aggression" in Perls' understanding based on his works, presenting his theory based on these productions and discussing the connection between the two modes of aggression - dental and hostile - debated by Perls. A reading of the theory of aggression was made to presenting it and discussing the ambiguities of the concept. The primary sources were four of the five Perls’ productions that encompassed the said theory, and a chapter on aggression found in the work of John Stevens (1975/1977). It has been pointed out that the theme of aggression was losing its force throughout Fritz's works and that his exposition is confusing, as well as the imprecise and unclear relationship between dental and hostile aggression and the biological nature of both, specially of hostile aggression. However, it was also concluded that Fritz Perls' aggression is a biological function and an instrument that enables the very preservation of life in a biological and existential sense, and which regulates contact with the environment.

Keywords : Gestalt-Therapy; Dental aggression; Hostile aggression; Biological function; Contact.
