Abstract

SILVA, Claudinei Aparecido de Freitas da. Buytendijk and the phenomenon of the first smile in the child. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.3, pp. 105-123. ISSN 2175-2591.  http://dx.doi.org/10.26823/RevistadoNUFEN.vol10.n03artigo40.

The article reconstructs, in general, the text of the inaugural lecture of F. J. J. Buytendijk ministered in 1947 at the University of Nijmegen, under the title The First Smile of the Child. The Dutch author revives this event not only as one of the most beautiful and pure manifestations of the human experience since early childhood, but in a turning phenomenological analysis perspective the ultimate significance of this gesture originating alongside other aspects or forms of smile. The conclusive thesis consists in advocating that, rather than a simple "fact" to be "explained", the event of the first smile reveals itself as a "phenomenon" to be "understood".
