This paper aims to describe the experience of a suicide prevention group in the university context in Maputo, Mozambique. Seven thematic meetings, each of which lasted one hour, were proposed as a conversation circle to promote strategies for suicide prevention. The group had Mozambican and Brazilian facilitators, two psychologists, one music therapist and two psychology students, and a mean of twelve participants per meeting. Psychoeducational, musicpsychotherapeutic and psychodramatic techniques and dialogue were used to mediate the meetings. Based on the thematic analysis, four themes were constructed: risk factors for suicide in Mozambican culture; protection and prevention factors; recognizing vulnerabilities; valuing of life. The results point to the relevance of the development of suicide prevention strategies aligned to the local scenario, through the mapping of risk factors and protection and community strengthening.
