This study presents a case study of a homeless population in Brasília (Brazil), based on the indicator that a research process, rather than instrumental actions aiming at clear objectives and predefined paths, is also a way of encounter, which involves both concrete situations and subjective and emotional factors. From the cartographic account of moments of the life of a homeless person, we sought to discuss and analyze what we call 'marginal words', which means indicators of a significant account and space, both of its social and structural condition, as of their psychic experiences and symbolic constructions.
