This article aims to discuss human dignity, meaning respect to a minimum condition for human existence, an absolute value and constitutionally established which consolidates respect to the human being. The study was developed through a bibliographical research. The Principle of Human Dignity is significant in the Brazilian legal order, because it refers to a criteria of compulsory value, legitimated and legalized; Article 1st, item II of the 1988 Federal Constitution establishes that the right to citizenship recognizes the principle of human dignity as one of the Brazilian Republic fundaments; that the right to an integrated and dignified life has as its main focus the principle of human dignity and as a fundamental right within and guaranteed by the 1988 Federal Constitution; that the principle of human dignity is the foundation of human rights considered fundamental conditions for the existence of the democratic state that is governed by the rule of law
