CASTELO BRANCO, Andréa Batista de Andrade; SOUZA, Leticia Silva de  e  PRATES, Bianca Veiga. Applicability and Rereading of Theory of Personality and Behavior in the Hospital. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.3, pp. 90-104. ISSN 2175-2591.

ABSTRACT The objective was to re-read Carl Rogers' theory of personality and behavior from the perspective of hospital psychology, in order to analyze how his propositions can be applied in this context of performance. A theoretical essay was performed and reading techniques were used to collect and analyze the data. The results showed that the iatrogenesis of the hospital environment, as well as the possible experiences of depersonalization, pain, losses, changes in the body, changes in family dynamics and death can trigger denial or distortion of the experience. Psychological interventions, however, favor greater congruence between the phenomenological field of experience and the conceptual structure of the self, enabling the conscious symbolization and perceptual expansion of experiences related to illness, treatment and hospitalization. It is considered that the personality theory has applicability in the hospital context, being able to subsidize the performance of the health psychologist in the patient-family-team triad.
