Abstract

NUNES, Ana LÝcia Pessoa  and  MACRDO, Shirley. Care for Deaf People by Health Professionals in Pernambuco University Hospital. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.1, pp. 1-12. ISSN 2175-2591.

One of the objectives of this research was to understand the experiences lived by health professionals in the university hospital of Pernambuco when attending deaf people. Another one was to acknowledge the management of the health care provided in the institution. Furthermore, to realize about the experiences they encounter and the strategies which are used. I hold an open interview to five professionals from a phenomenological perspective. This showed the limitation of communication with the patients, the facility of communication in front of a third person, doubts in the clinical procedure, the necessity of using nonverbal communication, the lack of an appropriate use of the sign language "Libras". To conclude, I can mention that professionals have developed communication skills beyond the oral one. However, there is an urge to instruct them during their career studies and that health institution takes social responsibility in capacitating the people involved in the system
